Wendy Yu is a prominent investor, philanthropist and patron of the Arts.
In 2015, Wendy Yu founded investment funding company Yu Capital to support high potential, high growth technology, fashion and lifestyle enterprises that have the potential to become market leaders.
The company’s most recent investments include British fashion brand Mary Katrantzou. Other technology-led investments include LOCA, Tuija and Didi Chuxing.
Angel investments include Fashion Concierge, a personal shopping app dedicated to sourcing the most sought-after fashion items, and Bottletop, sustainable accessories brand.
Wendy Yu is Zhejiang-born and has been exposed to the world of business from an early age. Her father is Chinese business magnate Mr. Jingyuan Yu, the founder of the Mengtian Group, the largest wooden door manufacturer in Asia with over 1,000 retailing stores in mainland China and over 4,000 employees; her mother is a successful private investor in real estate and the stock market; her uncle is Mr Jingbo Yu, the Executive Vice President of China Construction Bank; and Yu herself, an award-winning maths scholar, is the vice chairman of her family’s business.
Currently based in Shanghai, Yu combines her business savoir-faire with her love for fashion and the arts. After studying in the UK at Taunton school, Yu went on to study Fashion Management at London College of Fashion and later interned at Vogue China.
Awarded Young Achiever of the Year in 2015 at the Mulan awards for her work and positive influence on Chinese women, Yu seeks to bridge Asia and the rest of the world with her investments, philanthropy and culturally-driven ventures.
Wendy Yu is an avid philanthropist and prolific champion of new talent. A patron of the Arts, she is a founding member of the V&A Museum Young Patrons Circle, is the youngest serving patron of the Fashion Trust and is a supporter of a number of cultural organisations including BAFTA, the British Museum, the Design Museum and the National Portrait Gallery.
